The Magic of a Full Moon and a Coin: An Unexpected Blessing

It was around 4 am, and I found myself wide awake, unable to sleep. Deciding some fresh air might help, I stepped out onto the balcony. As an artist I like to mingle with the nature as and when I get the opportunity. To my surprise, there was an unusually big, orangish-pink moon hanging above the sea, casting its silverish light on the water. It was an exceptionally beautiful full moon, and I was completely mesmerized. This reaffirmed why the moon has been a symbol of beauty for ages. After admiring its splendor for quite some time, I finally went back to bed and fell asleep.

In the morning, while heading to the office, my car stopped at a signal. A trans woman approached me. I always make sure to give some money to trans woman as part of my social responsibility. As I was offering some money, she said, hey, do you know it’s a full moon day?” I smiled and quipped, “Who knows it better than me? We exchanged pleasantry. She continued, “Madam, I want to buy a sari. Could you please contribute a little more?” By then, we had made a cosmic connection. Suddenly, she said in a hurry, “Wait, let me give you something as well.” She searched her belongings and took out a coin. I gave her some more money, and she handed me a one-rupee coin. It was quite uncanny. Out of confusion, I asked her what should I do with it. She told me not to spend the coin but to keep it safe. As the signal turned green and the car started moving, I felt a strange sense of curiosity and wonder.

When I arrived at the office, I kept the coin in a safe place in the northeast direction as it is considered the space of God and Kinnar (transgener) is believed to be Ardhnarishwar, a combination of Godess Gauri and Shiva.

That evening, I was discussing a business plan on call with my cousin Richa who resides in Bangalore. Suddenly she exclaimed, “Woah! Such a beautiful moon.” I smiled and chuckled, “I know.” Wondering, should I call it serendipity?😊

I shared the kinnar incidence with my friends and family as well. I am quite spiritual nby nature and I believe in universal energy. For me it was certainly not a usual thing. Anyway, a few days later, I woke up early again, idle! That episode still had some hammering effect, I felt I am getting obsessed. Out of curiosity, I googled about it. To my surprise, many news articles and YouTube videos talked about the significance of a one-rupee coin from a kinnar (trans woman) and its astrological value.

According to Hindu mythology, kinnars are known as the combination of Shiva and Shakti and have the ability to diffuse negative energy. When you receive a coin from a kinnar, it is considered to ease the bad effect of Mercury and increase your wealth and happiness.

I also found articles about the impact when a kinnar gives you a one-rupee coin on a Wednesday. My mind started racing. I recalled my conversation with Richa and checked my phone history. It was indeed a Wednesday. The internet says having a money from a kinnar on Wednesday is extremely auspicious, it bestows good fortune in terms of wealth or commercial growth. We should wrap it up in a red cloth and place it in your purse or safe where you keep your money, and you will receive a lot of wealth.

While it might be a superstition, I don’t know. But, just about a week after this incidence, I got a call from an unknown person requesting me to take up a project in corrugated cardboard. They had the belief that no one can do it in India except for you. As a company they were badly stuck with the timeline and had fear of losing reputation. After several requests and knowing their situation, I ended up having the project. This opportunity came randomly and the best part was it was pretty rewarding and it opened up a new avenue for me to explore. I don’t want to directly associate it with my kinnar story, but still, I am amused! 😊
